Pennsylvania Department of Health Announces New Problem Gambling Outreach Mini-Grant Program

HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced today that it will offer mini-grants of up to $5,000 to develop programs related to public education, awareness and training to promote the treatment and prevention of compulsive and problem gambling.

The mini grant program is funded by the Compulsive and Problem Gambling Treatment Fund which is comprised of a percentage of the gross terminal revenue of all active slot machines.

The Department's Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs (BDAP) will provide the mini-grants to qualified individuals and agencies. The primary objectives are to establish and enhance collaborative relationships and increase awareness and knowledge in the area of problem and compulsive gambling, increase referral and engagement into treatment for problem gambling, and to implement activities directed toward changing individual and community norms regarding problem gambling behaviors.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Under Act 71, the Department of Health is responsible for providing treatment services, education, and prevention activities for problem and compulsive gamblers and their loved ones across Pennsylvania.
